Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Increase Tension on Frank
Spurs supporters who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told later "they cannot be true Tottenham supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.
Spurs let in a pair of scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their 10th top-flight home defeat of the year.
However the main talking point was Fulham's next score when the keeper gave away the ball far beyond his area.
The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a high pass and carried the ball towards the sideline.
But, instead of booting it into touch, the Italian turned and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.
The forward laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the sideline recorded at 36.6 metres.
Moments afterwards when the ball came to the keeper again, some Spurs supporters booed him.
Spurs were booed off at the interval, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those booing sessions truly irritated the manager.
"I heard a few of our fans reportedly booed the incident and jeered after, which, in my view is totally unacceptable," the Dane stated about the fans' response to his goalkeeper.
"[They] can't be real Spurs supporters that do that. Alright booing after the match, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are with each other moving ahead."
Kenny Tete had given Fulham a early advantage before Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an better second-half showing.
Ex- top-flight keeper Joe Hart remarked that the second goal was "completely preventable".
"I do appreciate the fans' frustration," Hart continued. "I am aware the part Vicario is performing. He is a excellent team player, he is a true leader in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"He was deeply involved in what ended up to be the winning score."
'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italian national team the keeper is in his third season with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old stated following the game that he had to take the feedback.
"That score was a mistake of my own, I take accountability for that," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just hit the ball in a bad way. That made an more difficult mountain to overcome."
He said being booed "is part of football".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "We cannot be affected by the circumstances in the stands. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.
"It is on the team to remain increasingly calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in calmness and calmness to reverse results. Today is a bad defeat and it is tough to accept."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Went Back to the Line'
Despite Vicario's error, it was not an easy goal for Wilson to convert.
In fact it was the second most distant top division score of the campaign – after Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally too came on Saturday.
The goalscorer stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open net to target.
10 seconds elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and the midfielder striking – which was 5 moments after the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson said.
"I was surprised none of the back four went back to the line. When not one of them defended the net, my eyes lit up somewhat.
"Udogie fell as well, which gave me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was all about attempting to make the right connection and place it towards goal. I had a positive sense, the moment it came off my foot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank
Although Vicario's mistake led headlines, this was an overall bad performance for Spurs to extend their home ground struggles.
The match was their 10th home defeat of 2025 in the league, a joint team record along with nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
The side still have home games against Frank's former club the Bees and champions the Reds to come before the end of the year.
Just a single of those wins have occurred after the manager replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"If you are behind 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to overcome," stated the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to go against you as well – the first was a redirected shot, the second is a error from the keeper.
"This result leaves us in a position where we have suffered another game. Each fixture has a single narrative, today we lost in the early stages.
"We simply need to keep working. The second half was significantly improved and with luck an aspect we can use to learn."
Spurs have lost 4 consecutive at home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are recording 9.5 shots and 3.2 shots on target per game in the Premier League – their poorest rates on record in a single season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Ex- Cottagers midfielder Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He must accept the stick," Murphy remarked. "He has accepted a prestigious role at a huge football club with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.
"The performances at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
